Don't Forget About Daylight Savings!

'Spring forward, Fall back' as the saying goes! On November 5th, we will get to enjoy an extra hour of sleep thanks to daylight savings.

What does this mean for your home and lawn? When the clocks turn back, there are a few small tasks you'll need to do in order to prepare your home and lawn for the winter season.

Check Your Clocks

First thing's first, make sure all of your clocks jumped back an hour to avoid any confusion. This includes ovens, microwaves, wall clocks, alarm clocks, you name it!

Check and Change HVAC Filters

It's typically a good rule of thumb to check the filters every time you change your clocks. Get your furnace filters checked or replaced to ensure that your HVAC system is running safely and efficiently. This will save you some money on your next energy bill and keep you nice and warm as colder weather starts to roll in.

Replace Batteries

Daylight savings in November is a good time to replace old batteries in your flashlights, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and wall clocks.

Something as simple as dead batteries can be life-threatening in emergency situations, which is why it's important to replace them on a bi-yearly basis. Since daylight savings happens twice a year, it is the perfect reminder to do so!

Remove Dead Leaves

Keep in mind that dead leaves aren't just unattractive, but they can be detrimental to your lawn's health. Clean up your dead leaves by raking the leaves up and bagging them or investing in a mulching mower, which will shred all the leaves and naturally become a weed control agent and natural fertilizer.
